Global Freight & Ocean Rates

  • The latest Global Port Tracker forecast puts August, at 2.3 million TEUs, on track to be the busiest month of 2026, with imports expected to decline gradually through November. Full-year volume at tracked ports is projected at 25.8 million TEUs, 1.4% above 2025.

  • Golden Week may do little to ease Trans-Pacific ocean rates. As of Oct. 6, Asia–U.S. West Coast spot rates were $8,322 per FEU, down 3% week over week, while East Coast rates were $9,606; typhoon-related congestion, blank sailings, and delays of seven to 10 days are keeping rates elevated.

  • Shippers preparing for 2027 Asia–Europe contract talks are seeking more flexibility on rates, surcharges, and loading guarantees. Drewry forecasts fourth-quarter utilization falling to 79% on Asia–North Europe and 70% on Asia–Mediterranean routes; September on-time performance was just 4% and 3%, respectively.

  • CMA CGM and DSV’s two-year biofuel agreement targets a 12,000-metric-ton reduction in CO₂ emissions through the use of UCOME biofuel made from used cooking oil.

  • Hurricane Isaias prompted the Port of Mobile to suspend vessel and cargo-handling operations on Oct. 9. Reopening depended on further assessment and Coast Guard authorization.
