UPS 2020 GRI Announced

On November 18, 2019, UPS announced it's General Rate Increases for the coming year. Beginning on December 29, 2019, there will be an average Ground and Air service increase of 4.9% along with a variety of accessorial and other surcharge increases.Interestingly, the new ground rates will now largely be the same as those of FedEx.At a high level, some other important changes will take effect for 2020:

• Rebill fee will be assessed for all billing account change requests for a shipment
• Prohibited Item Fee will be applied to prohibited and restricted items found in packages
• Value-added and other charges will be applied to packages returned as undeliverable
• Late payment fee may be assessed if an invoice is not fully paid by its due date
• Lowered threshold for Additional Handling surcharge; from 70lbs to 50lbs
• A change in Zip codes in which surcharges will be applied
